NASHVILLE, January 20, 2016– Under new leadership, the House Finance sub-committee –once a place where conservative legislation was sent to die– overwhelmingly passed House Bill 1049. If signed into law, the bill would establish a system of school vouchers for Tennessee. With 35 conservative co-sponsors, this bill, which has been endorsed by conservative groups across Tennessee, had been held back from passage in previous sessions.
The bill was heavily opposed by the National Education Association, an out of state government union that recently endorsed Hillary Clinton for president.
TCA is proud to thank the members of the Finance subcommittee who followed the tradition of conservative leaders Marco Rubio, Ted Cruz, George Bush, and Ronald Reagan in supporting school vouchers and school choice for parents and taxpayers.
